New chapters from Professional ASP.NET 2.0 Special Edition available FREE
OK, Bill Evjen and Scott Hanselman and the rest of the Professional ASP.NET 2.0 Special Edition author team probably think their editor has gone crazy. (What I really need here is one of those cheesy car dealer radio spots where they've gone crazy and are selling cars at crazy prices.)
The authors wrote a ton of new content for this new Special Edition of the book. Right around 300 new pages actually. And their crazy editor is going to give away about 1/2 of it - 140 pages. in a free PDF download at Wrox.com.
What are we giving away?
Chapter 14: Introduction to the Provider Model
Chapter 15: Extending the Provider Model
Chapter 30: Localization
Chapter 32: Instrumentation
Yes, 4 of the cool, all new chapters.
But why? Here's a hint. The download link for this is on the page for the original book Professional ASP.NET 2.0.
Over the years of being an editor, I've gotten countless emails from readers asking, when you have a new edition, why can't I just get the new pages - I'd pay for them.
It's rarely practical or easy to identify a big chunk of a new edition as "this is the new stuff." But in this case it is. So I'm giving this a try.
But why give this away? Won't that undercut the sales of the new Special Edition?
Maybe. But, we've had so many people buy the first edition, I want to say thanks to everyone who've made this book a blazing best-seller. I want to be better than the telcos and cable companies who treat their existing customers like dirt and save their best deals for new customer acquisitions. So, this is Wrox's thank you to everyone who bought (and continues to buy) Professional ASP.NET 2.0.
So why should someone consider buying Professional ASP.NET 2.0 Special Edition?
- I've got an extensive list of all the additions to the book. Remember, these pages are only 1/2 of the additions.
- The Special Edition includes a DVD with Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition 180 Trial and a CD with more than 1000 pages of content from more than 15 other related Wrox books. And it's not chapter 1 intro stuff, it's meaty chapters.
- There are updates and new code throughout the entire Special Edition book.
- The online PDF version of the 4 new chapters is nice, but wouldn't it be nice to have the complete new book in print, for those of us who still prefer print books to ebooks?
So, I hope everyone gets some use from the new chapters, the PDF, and I hope at least a few people buy the Special Edition so I don't look like too much of a fool for giving these away.
