What the Hell? Crossing the line in any medium
I don't know Kathy Sierra. She's been kind enough to correspond with me off-blog and share some of her genius once or twice though so I feel like I know her. So while I know this kind of stuff goes on in blogs, I'm enraged by what I read happening to Kathy over on her blog.
Not that there's any excuse for the hate being directed at Kathy but I've got to say, I just don't understand why? What has Kathy ever said or done that's worthy of getting anyone this worked up? Tiny people with tiny warped little minds doing this. Jealous of the creativity Kathy shares with us all, they can only create hate and violence.
This is not a blogging problem. It's a people problem. yes, blogs and the internet as a whole empower previously hidden jerks to spread this kind of lunacy in annonimity with the click of a button like never before possible. But this isn't something wrong with blogging, it's wrong with someone's brain.
I haven't had time to read all the comments on Kathy's blog offering their support (or those on Scoble's that alerted me to this). I'll offer mine here too though: Kathy (and Scoble and Maryam) I'll pray for healing for the nutcases out there doing this and pray for your safety.

It's really sad that people make themselves feel better by picking on other people. You're right, though, it's not a blog problem, it's a people problem. These are the same type of people that key your car because "you deserve it"...you do, afterall, have a car that they want. What always kills me is that if these same people would just apply themselves, funnel that energy into something creative, who knows what wonderful things the world would have now instead of more ignorance.
